Our colleague, L.A. Batchelor (born Leroy Craig Batchelor), passed away on December 10, 2025, in Greer, South Carolina, at the age of 55. A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Batchelor was a longtime journalist for various organizations, including WYBC-FM and WNHC-AM in his hometown. A graduate of Richard C. Lee/Career High School and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, he began “The Batchelor Pad” radio program in Durham, North Carolina, in January of 1998. He also worked briefly in the state of Florida and eventually returned to the Tar Heel State to develop “The Batchelor Pad Radio Network,” which became syndicated throughout the country and Canada. All of his platforms covered college and pro sports, with an emphasis on HBCU athletics and politics.
