Eagles fly to top of HBCU-PSMA’s Black College Major Division poll while the Tigers maintain claim to No. 1 spot on the Mid-Major poll.

Pittsburgh, PA:  Coach Tre Oliver  and his Eagles of North Carolina Central have flown into the number one spot on the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Association Black College Football Poll.

The Eagles garnered 189 points on their way to the top and were followed by Florida A&M, Hampton, Grambling State and Jackson State rounding out the top five. Tennessee State, Southern University, Alabama A&M, Howard and Prairie View A&M completed the top ten in the Major Division. Alcorn State sits outside the top ten with  19 points. The Spartans of Norfolk State garnered 16 points while dropping out of top ten this week.

Meanwhile Coach Chennis Berry and his Tigers of Benedict College are making the number one spot  in the Mid-Major Division their den. The Purple and Gold garnered 199 points and 19 first place votes to claim the top spot, followed by Virginia State, Fort Valley State, Miles College and West Virginia State rounding out the top five. Tuskegee, Virginia Union, Johnson C. Smith , Allen University and Fayetteville State complete the top ten of the Mid-Major Division. Albany State and Bowie State are outside of the top ten with 28 and 15 points, respectively.

Pollsters comprise a cross-section of HBCU media members, including eight different media organizations. These voters cover all four HBCU football-playing conferences, and reside in 11 different states.

The HBCU-PSMA

Established in 2021, the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Association is an organization of professionals providing multimedia coverage of Historically Black College and University sports, as well as professional sports.

The purpose of the association is to transform and empower the culture of media by providing informative broadcast stories, rich contextual reporting and inspirational photography of the marginalized by educating, inspiring, and informing a global community.
