Jackson State and Virginia Union Remain Atop HBCU-PSMA Football Polls For Third Straight Week

The HBCU Sports-Pro Media Association members voted and released their Week 4 HBCU Football’s Major and Mid-Major poll results.

Jackson State and North Carolina Central remained unbeaten through four games and in the top two spots of the Major division of the HBCU-PSMA poll.  Moving up three spots from last week is the Alcorn State Braves who defeated UAPB 38-21 thanks to an impressive rushing performance by co-SWAC Offensive Player of the Week/Newcomer of the Week, Jarveon Howard, who had 295 rushing yards and 4 TDs.  Prairie View A&M and Florida A&M each moved up four spots from the bottom of the poll to the middle of the poll after wins against a pair of Alabama schools.  PVAMU beat Alabama State 25-15 and FAMU beat Alabama A&M 38-25.

The top five teams in the Mid-Major polls remained unchanged, led by the Virginia Union Panthers, who did pick up three more first-place votes. In fact, six of the top seven teams from last week all won their contests last week.  Shaw University (2-2) moved into the Top 10 at number eight after a 35-16 win over ECSU. Lane College (2-2) moved back into the poll at the number 10 spot.

Pollsters comprise a cross-section of HBCU media members, including eight different media organizations. These voters cover all four HBCU football-playing conferences, and reside in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.
