Jackson State in Major Division and a tie between Albany State and Bowie State in Mid-Majors top HBCU-PSMA’s week 10 football polls.

There was a close battle for the top spot in HBCU-PSMA’s “Major Division” top 10 poll this week with Jackson State (8-1) barely edging Prairie View A&M (9-1).  If they face off against each other, it won’t be until the SWAC championship game on December 4th. Retaining the third and fourth spots are Florida A&M and Norfolk State, respectively, with South Carolina State moving up three spots from last week into the No. 5 ranking.  Rounding out the final five spots are Alabama A&M (which jumped from No. 9 to No.5), Alcorn State, Tennessee State, North Carolina Central (which halted Norfolk State’s six-game win streak last weekend) and Southern University.  This week, No. 1 Jackson State faces No. 10 Southern University and No. 2 Prairie View A&M takes on No. 7 Alcorn State.

In the “Mid-Major Division” of the week ten HBCU-PSMA poll, there was a dead-heat for number one between last week’s No. 1 Albany State and last week’s No. 2 Bowie State.  Not only did both receive the exact same number of votes, they received the same number of first place votes. Albany State will square off next week in the SIAC championship against this week’s No. 5 team, Miles College.  Bowie State will play for the CIAA title next week versus this week’s No. 3 team, Fayetteville State.  Number 4 Savannah State has concluded its season as has No. 8 Virginia Union and No. 9 Shaw University. Number 6 Langston College, No. 7 Kentucky State and No. 10 West Virginia State all have games scheduled for this upcoming weekend.

The HBCU-Pro Sports Media Black College Football Poll will be released every Monday evening on the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Knights of the Round Table Podcast (hbcuprosportsmedia.com).

About the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Association:

While the seeds of the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Association were planted well before, early in 2020 a like-minded group of journalists got together and built an organization that represented who collectively we are… professionals providing multimedia coverage of Historically Black College and University sports, as well as professional sports.

The purpose of the association is to transform and empower the culture of media by providing informative broadcast stories, rich contextual reporting, and inspirational photography of the marginalized by educating, inspiring, and informing a global community.

It is the vision of the HBCU-PSMA to

  • acknowledge the heritage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the connection to professional sports organization,
  • illuminate the pride of the African American community and the Black Diaspora,
  • recognize the voice of Black media,
  • create unity for substantive change in the world.
